Back to the Northern Beaches Peregrine Falcons – 2 November 2025

I decided to return to he clifftop of the Northern Beaches, after a relatively quite visit the day before. My reasoning for returning a day later was that with these young Peregrine Falcons – you have to strike while the iron is hot. As  the juveniles get ldc , they fly further away from the nest area and so are often  lot harder to find perched on the cliffs.

Sue was able to join me on this visit, and it turned out better than the day before.

When we arrived on the cliffs, we met two after bird photographers – Celine and Diana. I knew both of them from Long Reef.

They had spotted a juvenile Peregrine Falcon perched  in the “usual” palm tree. I waited for it to take off – Continue reading

I travelled up to the coastal cliffs of the Northern Beaches hoping to get more photos of the family of Peregrine Falcons.

It turned out to be a relatively quiet day, with not that much flying action.

Here is one of the juveniles flying along the cliffs – Continue reading

On our way, we spotted four sets of Tawny Frogmouths. The first was at the Leslie Muir Reserve. Continue reading

Northern Beaches Peregrine Falcons – 28 October 2025

I mentioned to my friend Sue that “you have to strike while the iron is hot” meaning that if you want to observe and photograph juvenile Peregrine Falcons, the best time is soon after they fledge as they tend to stay close to the nest area and can be easier to spot.

So we travelled up to the sea cliffs of the Northern Beaches again and spent a fair time there. And you do need to spend a fair bit of time as the young Peregrine Falcons only fly for 5 or 10 minutes every hour or two, and you need to make the most of your opportunities. Continue reading

Northern Beaches Peregrine Falcons – 26 October 2025

After recent great trips to see the new family of Peregrine Falcons on the sea cliffs of the Northern Beaches, I was keen for another trip to the cliffs. It amazing to watch these very young birds develop their flying skills. Sue came along with me.

The morning was nice, but after lunch we had a few periods of light rain. We could shelter in a cave near the cliffs. The baby Peregrine Falcons were simply amazing. We saw a really great display of flying.

When we arrived we spotted a juvenile Peregrine Falcon perched on the cliffs – Continue reading

Malabar Headland – 24 October 2025

Sue and myself had been to Sculpture By The Sea. Since we had arrived there before sunrise, it was quite early when we left. We travelled back to Bondi Junction, then caught the 350 bus to Maroubra Beach. Before setting out into the National Park, we had breakfast at a cafe in the main street.

Our main aim was to see the resident Peregrine Falcons and check on their nesting progress. But when you visit Malabar Headland National Park, you often experience a lot more.

On the walk out, we spotted a Nankeen KestrelContinue reading

Sculpture By The Sea – 24 October 2025

I met Sue very early in the morning at Bondi Junction, and we travelled by bus to Bondi Beach in time for sunrise. We were visiting Sculpture By The Sea.

But, when we arrived, there was no sunrise. There was a large could bank in the eastern horizon. And was it quiet? No. There were hundred of coastal runners on the path.

Here is some of the art – Continue reading
