Audley Walk – 27 Jun 2024

I was attending a meeting at Audley, near the National Parks Office in the late afternoon, so, to fill in the day, I caught a train to Loftus, and walked into the Royal National Park, via the road that follows the railway line, then to the NPWS Office, then down the Honeymoon Track to Audley. I then intend to walk upstream seeing what birds were about.

Walking down the Honeymoon Track I saw a number of birds. Continue reading

This was another quick visit to Wolli Creek Regional Park to check if any new fungi was present.

Lane Cove River Fungi Update – 25 June 2024

I decided on a visit to the Lane Cove River to document how the Parrot Waxcaps were going.

I walked down to where they are, and soon located one of the ones I had seen on my previous visit six days before. It was the only one of them still intact. The others had either fallen to bits or fallen over. Here it is, and it is looking a bit dry. Continue reading

Mowlee Ridge Walk – 24 June 2024

This was an interesting walk in Royal National Park, along the Mowlee Ridge, following the Little Marley Firetrail from the Bundeena Road to Little Marley. It was a ridge I have not visited before (except for the bottom section on loop walks from Wattamolla). Once again, the walk was led by Brian Everingham for the National Parks Association of NSW.

In the party was Brian, Terry, Elaine, Sue, Judy, Joan and myself. It was the wrong time of the year to look for orchids in this habitat, so I was on the lookout for birds. Continue reading

Back to the Lane Cove River Fungi – 19 June 2024

I made another visit to check the status of the Parrot Waxcaps near the Lane Cove River.

I found about 5 of them, The one above is fresh. Note the insect on the stipe. is it resenting there or is it stuck on due to the glutinous surface?

Some of the older ones I had seen on the previous visit were still in good condition. Continue reading
