I joined Valerie and Sue for another walk along the Cooks River. We started at Beaman Park (from Wardell Road),and continued down to Gough Whitlam Park, where we hoped to stop for coffee at the newly reopened cafe.

After my very poor fungi walk down Wolli Creek in the morning, I decided to pack my bird camera for an afternoon walk along the Cooks River to see what birds were around.

I walked downstream from Illawarra Road to Gough Whitlam Park, and then back upstream. A short way down the path, I spotted two birders. They had spotted a Sacred Kingfisher. I was ready with my camera. Continue reading

I, together with several hundred thousand others, banded together for a protest march over Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was a coming together of people appalled by what has been happening recently in Gaza.

It was a large but peaceful and friendly demonstration. There were plenty of family groups, old people with wheelchairs and walkers, Palestinian groups, Jewish groups, trade unions, students etc. Continue reading
Sydney and been going through a period of wet weather, and Bob and myself decided to take advantage of the rain by looking for some Aboriginal engravings. These engraving are often very faint and extremely hard to discern – but the can change when the rock is wet, and also during winter when the Sun (if there is any) is low. So we decided on a second visit to Cattai National Park on the Hawkesbury River and we had a few options for more activities to fill out the afternoon. One was a walk from Bowen Mountain, along a ridge to Poetry Rock, a lookout above the lower Grose River.

Bob and myself had visited Cattai National Park before and found a number of Aboriginal sites – but these were almost all sharpening grooves. Now, with a bit more research, we found we had missed some engravings. Continue reading
