During a spell of wet weather I was keen to get out. On this day, it looked like rain would not arrive until the afternoon, so I sent the morning in the Wolli Creek area.
I started from Girrahween Park, and first went upstream towards Bexley North along the Two Valleys Track. Part way along, at a very wet section, I turned back and walked back to Bardwell Park and continued downstream to Turrella. Continue reading
My friend Wendy had been busy painting and studying and was desperate to get outside for a day. She suggested a walk in Royal National Park and invite me to join her. We considered a few options and ended up deciding on the Curra Moors.
Rain was forecast for the day, and we took rain gear and even umbrellas – but on the day we were very lucky. It was stormy – but we seemed to escape it all. Impressive storm clouds were all around – but we mainly had sun. Continue reading
I had been raining in the Blue Mountains, and I thought a waterfall photography walk may be nice. So I caught a train up the mountains. I was initially planning on walking near Blackheath, but on the way up, it looks like there was a fair bit of local rain and Wentworth Falls may offer more shelter (e.g. National Pass is largely under overhangs). So I detrained at Wentworth Falls.

I joined my friends John and Chuin Nee, and their sons Jasper and Sebastian on a visit to John’s mother’s property at Nerriga. The property is located on the beautiful Corang River.

A visiting expert on the study of Bolete Fungi, Roy Haling, was in Australia on a trip from New York. I had the pleasure of accompanying him and some other members of the Sydney Fungal Studies Group Inc on two field trips in the Blue Mountains.
On the first day, we visited Wilsons Glen at Woodford. In the party as well as Roy, there was Gemma, the organiser, Pam, Liz and myself. We wandered down the track from Woodford Station and soon descended into a nice patch of rainforest. Continue reading

I went on a walk from Thornleigh to Macquarie Park, mainly along the track of the Great North Walk. I wanted to see if any fungi or orchids were out.
It turned out that I didn’t see much fungi, and most of the orchids I saw were old ones that had lots their flowers. But it was a pleasant walk and it is always nice to be out in the bush again. Continue reading
I had been watching the weather radar and could see thats some thunderstorms were on their way. So I jumped on a train and headed to Waverton and then walked the short distance to Balls Head.
At the head, there are a few good places – rock ledges, that provide good outlooks towards Sydney – the city, the bridge and up the harbour. Ideal places for some storm watching. Nearby are a few rock overhangs to shelter in if the weather gets too wild. Continue reading
