I am getting good value form my yearly zoo pass. I visit the zoo again. This time the weather was a lot cooler. When I arrived it was raining lightly, so I started off indoors at the reptile section.

It started out a wet day, so canyoning plans were put on hold and we decided to do a bushwalk instead. Bob and myself had headed up the mountains and parked at the Conservation Hut at Wentworth Falls. We started out on the track to the Valley of the Waters, and turned off to Lillians Glen.

Su Li was keen for some canyoning on Sunday, and suggested Bell Creek at Mt Wilson. She was joined on the trip by Brent, Stacey and myself.
Bell Creek is the most spectacular canyon in the Mt Wilson area. On this trip, we only visited the lower constriction of Bell Creek – which makes an excellent day trip. Continue reading
I went down to Tempe Wetlands early on Saturday morning to join the Tempe Birdos for their monthly bird count.

I spent and enjoyable and fairly relaxing day canyoning in the Blue Mountains with Bob. We first headed to Dargan and followed the road along the railway line to the carpark above the old railway dam. We walk down to the dam, and then climbed down to the valley below the dam and followed Dargans Creek downstream.
It was easy going, and we soon arrived at the first swim which is a little way above the canyon. Around the corner, we arrived at the canyon – the start of which is a huge assemblage of logs and also the cliffs on the side of the creek get higher. Continue reading
With the recent unending spell of hot weather, it has been hard to be motivated for energetic activities. So it was easy to decide on another visit to the zoo.

I wanted to try and get some photos of animals that I and missed out on last visit – such as the fishing cat. On this visit, I did manage to get some photos of it, but nothing too special. I think you need to be lucky to see the cat actually in the water and fishing. Continue reading

I was heading up to Blackheath for a literary function that afternoon. So I used the middle of the day to visit The Grand Canyon. It was also a good time to catch up with a friend Rik, who has just returned from New Zealand after completing an excellent bushwalk – a long traverse of the Cameron Mountains in Fiordland. Rik was also keen to visit the canyon.
After a nice breakfast at Blackheath village, we headed off to Evans Lookout, and then walked back to the Neates Glen Track to make our way to the canyon. At present this canyon is only open for canyoners on 3 days per week (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) because of track work. Continue reading
I joined a group of friends for a trip along part of the Bargo River at Tahmoor down to the Mermaids Pool. It was a very hot day – well suited to swimming and the river was an ideal place to go. This is part of the area for the proposed Bargo-Nepean National Park.

In the party were John and Chuin Nee, with their two young sons Jasper and Sebastian, and also Enmoore, Brent, Su Li, Martin and Steffy. We left the carpark at Retford Bridge and walked down the Bargo River along the lower track. Our first stopping place was the See Through Pool where we enjoyed a nice swim. I also took a few photos of the nice waterfalls and cascades. The water flow was much less than on my previous visit. Continue reading
After the protest at Baird’s Office at Manly, Wendy and myself had lunch at Manly Beach and then Wendy had to head off to work. I had the afternoon free, so I started walking north along the Coastal Walkway.
