I visited Wolli Creek last week on a bushwalk from Bexley North Station to Turella Station. On the way I stopped to photograph some of the fruit bats (Flying Foxes) in a colony near the creek.

This was another walk organised by Wendy. As well as myself, she was joined by Keith and Peter. Our aim was to walk down the Wolgan River and if possible check out some features near the Annie Rowan Creek junction.
Wendy was keen to see the Totem Pole – an earth pillar on the riverbank, not far below Annie Rowan Creek and she was also keen to see some rock wallabies. With both of these objectives we were not disappointed. Continue reading

I had been invited to spend Christmas Eve with my sister and her husband, who live at Woodford, and I thought it may be nice to do some of the short walks in the area.
Mabel Falls
The first walk we did was the Transit of Venus Walk which goes to three waterfalls – Mabel Falls, Edith Falls and Hazel Falls. These small waterfalls are to be found on the north side of Woodford. The walk is so named because a transit of Venus was observed using a 4.5 inch telescope at Woodford, not long after the town was established in the 1870’s. Continue reading
After our visit to Rocky Creek the day before both Albert and myself were keen to visit another showcase canyon and continue our canyon photography. So we set off for Hole in the Wall Canyon. This would be my first visit to this canyon since the October 2013 bush fires and it would be interesting to see how things had changed.
At the carpark there were a lot of cars in contrast to Rocky Creek the day before when there had been no other visitors. We thought the canyon may be crowded. Two more cars turned up as we were about to head off. But as it turned out – all these other people must have been visiting other canyons in the area, or they had visited Hole in the Wall much earlier in the day. Continue reading
I headed up the mountains with Albert – our aim was to visit some showcase canyons and concentrate on photography. Our plan was to first visit Rocky Creek Canyon. We arrived at the carpark at Galah Mountain and were surprised to find no other cars. As it turned out – we were the only party visiting the canyon that day.
We walked through the nice rainforest gully to the start of the canyon. Then after changing into wetsuits, we climbed down into the canyon. The day was generally sunny with quite a few clouds. Rocky Creek Canyon can be good in the sun – as long as you use indirect lighting. But in the first part of the canyon, the lighting was quite poor – too much sunlight was coming in and making photography no good. It may be better in this section later on with the sun a bit lower? Each year a group of us have got on our bikes are completed an evening tour of the Christmas Light of the inner west. In past years we have started at Dulwich Hill and moved west along the Cooks River Cycleway to Croydon Park and then ended up at Second St, Ashbury. This year -we headed east instead in a loop that started at Dulwich Hill – then to Marrickville and Tempe, and then back to Dulwich Hill.
We met at Dulwich Hill shops and had dinner, then got on our bikes. Continue reading
I went down to see how the birds were going along the Cooks River. It was a bit windy and the tide was high – so not too many birds along the mudflats. I headed up to Cup and saucer Creek to see how the baby birds were going at the Wetlands. They seemed to be doing fine. Here are a a few photos –
With the recent World Parks Congress held in Sydney some interesting time lapse videos were produced highlighting two national parks near Sydney. The videos were filmed by Filippo Rivetti.

I joined a large group of Sydney University Bushwalkers and friends to walk down and camp on the Coxs River just off the SixFoot Track.
The Coxs River at the campsite is delightful. It flows through a granite area and the water has carved the granite into beautiful shapes. Sculpture by Nature! I find it a good place to wander around with a camera and tripod. Continue reading
