Spring is wildflower time in Royal National Park and its nice to spend a few days wandering along the coast. On the second day I was joined by Dan and Gab who had come up from Canberra.
This is a photographic essay mainly concentrating on the coastal rocks and flowers.
It was the day after the federal election. A sad day. A good time to escape to the bush. I headed up to Wentworth Falls and then down the Charles Darwin Track towards the big waterfalls of Wentworth Falls. The weather was as gloomy as my mood. A thick mist shrouded everything. Beautiful conditions!
No wind, calm and peaceful. A good place to be. Lots of birds flying about and chirping in the shrubs. Wildflowers out in abundance. Continue reading
We were having a party at Bronte in the park behind the beach. Friends from Hobart would soon be in town. We were meeting at noon. I arrived early, Very early. In time for sunrise and that allowed me plenty of time to wander along the coast with my camera.
I ventured from Bronte, first to Clovelly and back, then had breakfast a cafe, then headed north to Bondi. I took my time. Wandering on the rock platforms, Looking for patterns on the rocks and in the sand. It was a nice morning. Continue reading
Kim had her bike refurbished and was keen to take it out for a ride. I suggested heading out along Grose Road at Faulconbridge to Faulconbridge Point, a great lookout overlooking the lower Grose Valley.
On the train, we met up with friends Stu and Enmoore who were heading to Woodford for the Oaks fire trail. We talked them in to joining us on the ride. Continue reading
It was a nice weekend to spend up the mountains. I went up with John, Chuin Nee and Jasper, and up at Mt Victoria we met up with Dave Os, Keith and others to walk out to the Asgard Plateau campsite. There we met Don, who had walked in earlier.
This is an easy walk of about 2 km. After setting up camp, some of us walked out to the nearby Thor Head to enjoy the view and to stay around for the sunset. Pleasant relaxing times in a great spot. Continue reading
Another walk into the Blue Labyrinth
Martin and myself headed out last weekend to explore some creeks and ridges near Erskine Creek. After a late start we set out along the Jack Evans Track. This is an easy, well made and maintained track. Near the start are some rock platforms that give excellent views of Erskine Creek. Around us the wild flowers were in full bloom. It was only August! Last weekend I returned to the Grose River, walking from Mt Victoria to Blackheath. I was hoping that the wattle would be in full flower. The wattle was good, although perhaps not as a good as a previous walk two years ago.
I started by walking out to Victoria Falls Lookout and the down to the Falls and then to the Grose River at Burra Korain Flat. Continue reading
There was a significant birthday to celebrate. Pantoneys Crown is hard to beat for a venue.
A group of us (Chantal, Mitch, Peter, Myles and Jane) set off from the hill above Baal Bone Gap on Saturday morning. Down a very steep hill – watching some 4WD antics on the way – then out to the Gap and the pressure reducing station. Our latish start mean it was better to walk the fast route to the Crown on the Saturday, and return via the longer but more scenic Baal Bone Point route on the Sunday.
Erskine Creek is a beautiful wild creek in the Blue Labyrinth Section of Blue Mountains National Park. It starts off as Bedford Creek and has a source close to Wentworth Falls and Kings Tableland. Downstream, the name changes to “Erskine Creek” – and the creek is a lot more remote.
It lies in an area explored by the Warrigal Club and in particular, two great bushwalkers, Harry Whaite and Jack Gibson, in a period between World War 1 and 2.
A friend, Steffy, had suggested this walk. I had been to the start before – at the Sphinx at North Turramurra and had visited Bobbin Head on bike ride, but never down the walk along Cowan Creek. Also a commentator to this blog had also suggested the walk.
Cold and windy weather was forecast, so I thought that it would be a good day for the walk and it should be relatively sheltered along the side of Cowan Creek. It was. I had a very pleasant walk. Continue reading
