Sue joined me for another visit to Nurragingy Reserve. We again had an excellent outing seeing a lot of interesting birds.
First off, we went to the pond where we had seen Sacred Kingfishers feeding a chick at their nest on our previous visit. It appears the chick has successfully fledged.
We soon spotted a Sacred Kingfisher –
We went around the other side of the pool to get closer. The Kingfisher had spotted something.
It flew off and returned with a cicada –
It was soon joined by its fledgling –
And the cicada was passed to the chick –
The cicada was almost too big for the chick to swallow.
It took a lot of effort!
The chick looked content.
We then went on the walk around the perimeter fire trail. We heard a lot of birds, but most didn’t show themselves.
Eastern Spinebill
Yellow-faced Honeyeater
Square-tailed Kite
Back at the ponds, we spotted this juvenile Olive-backed Oriole –
Sacred Kingfisher
Water Skink
This visit we only had a fleeting view of a single Azure Kingfisher –
Turtle
Rainbow Lorikeet
Little Pied Cormorants
Water Dragon
Pacific Baza
Sacred Kingfisher
We were pleased to spot a family of four Tawny Frogmouths –
Pacific Baza
Sacred Kingfisher
Turtles
We concentrated on watching the juvenile Pacific Baza we had seen earlier for the last part of our visit. It was now able to get food for itself.
During our visit, we also met up with Wayne, the local expert and it was pleasant watching up.
