Greenway Bird Survey – 27 September 2021

Day 93 of lockdown. Local bird surveys have not started up properly again, but I was able to join David Hair and survey the Greenway between Tavererns Hill and Hawthorne Light Rail Stations.

At Taverners Hill we saw the usual New Holland Honeyeaters and Red Wattlebirds.

There was also an adult and a juvenile Grey Butcherbird. Here is the adult –

David Hair also spotted a small flock of Top Knot Pigeons fly over. But his best spotting was this juvenile Rose Robin

It was hard to photograph!

Here is another Red Wattlebird

David had also noticed earlier a White-faced Heron’s nest. We found the nest, and he said it looked like there were no chicks as an adult had been siting on the nest for a long time. Near the nest we saw an adult.

But from a different angle, we could see that there were chicks! Two chicks.

We watched as the parent came over to feed them.

This was certainly nice to see!

A few more birds – some squabbling Noisy Miners

And a Pied Cormorant
