We had quite a wet day on the National Parks Association walk to North Head from Manly. But despite the rain we still had a great outing.

Over the past five years I have been documenting a breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons on Malabar Headland. However on this day I visited another section of the Sydney Coastline in order to photograph a family of Peregrine Falcons. This pair have three chicks that fledged, perhaps three weeks ago, so they are quite good fliers.
I didn’t intend to stay most of the day, but the juveniles put on a good flying display, so I stayed from around 10:30 am till around 5 pm. I had a late start to avoid a storm that seemed to be passing over the area. Continue reading
Valerie had been on the earlier Greenway Bird Survey, and during morning tea, we talked about an afternoon walk down Wolli Ck. So we met on the bus to Bexley North and started down the Two Valleys Track.
We had no fixed plans to walk all the way along the creek and then back up the Cooks River. We just set off to see what we would find. Continue reading

At Sydney Park, I had two aims – to photograph the Tawny Frogmouths and the Powerful Owl. I first went to the Tawny Frogmouth nest and from a certain angle I could see two chicks looking out. Continue reading
Many years ago (1970’s – 80’s) I was an active member of the Kameruka Bushwalking Club, and I was pleased to be able to attend a reunion held at Blackheath. I have outlined some of the highlights of this club’s activities in an earlier post when I attended the 2014 reunion.
The current reunion was delayed due to Covid lockdowns, and it was great to see it finally go ahead. Much of the credit to organising it goes to Barry and Jenny Dunnett who did a lot of the groundwork from their home in New Zealand. Continue reading
On the way home from Royal National Park, I stopped off at St Peters and made quick visit to Sydney Park. I wanted to have another look for the Powerful Owl. This time I had success.

Another nice walk organised and led by Brian Everingham for the National Parks Association of NSW. Then plan was to catch the ferry to Bundeena and then walk along Jibbon Beach, around the headland, and then continue on the track that leads to The Coastal Track where it starts.
Early in the morning, it had been raining. Quite heavily. But while we were on the walk, the weather was quite reasonable. Only short time with very light rain and then later a period of Sun. This meant a very pleasant walk.

I spent a nice day visiting two local sites. I started at Sydney Park and then caught a bus down the road to Barton Park.
My main aim Sydney Park was to try and spot a Powerful Owl that had been roosting there recently. I did not manage to find the owl, but in he process of looking for it, I did spot a Tawny Frogmouth on its nest. Continue reading
