This was a pleasant day out and it include a nice bike ride and some nature photography. I set off along the Cooks River Cycleway to Tempe. Then I visited Tempe Reserve. The tide was quite high and the salt marsh was full of water. I only saw a few Superb Fairy-wrens there.

I was on my way to attend the Christmas Lunch of the Sydney Fungal Studies Group, which was being held at Bardwell Park. I though that would give me a good opportunity to visit the Two Valleys Track which runs along Wolli Creek for part of its length (the other valley being the Cooks River).

So I caught a train to Bexley North and then walked slowly to Bardwell Park. This first section of the walk was fairly quiet. I didn’t see too man birds, although I could hear them. They seem to be a bit shy. Continue reading
This was forecast to be an interesting day, with a dust storm due to pass over the city. I thought a good place to take some photos could be North Head. I travelled to Manly via the Ferry and then walked to the beck and continued to Shelly Beach. I next walked up the track to the barracks, and then took a side track to Blue Fish Point.

On the way, a powerful but short thunderstorm passed over. The storm lighting was impressive – but I only saw it in forest before arriving at the barracks, where I took shelter under an arch. It had been a little dusty on the ferry, but not too impressive. Continue reading
I made another trip to the Northern Beaches to see if the resident Peregrine Falcons were active. The forecast was for it to be reasonably windy, so I thought conditions may be OK.
It turned out to be pretty quiet. Not much action when I arrived and not that windy – only a a slight breeze. I though I saw a distant Falcon diving and flying further along the cliffs. So I set off along the Coastal Path, closely examining the cliffs as I went. This paid off, as further along I saw one Falcon perched on a ledge. Continue reading
On my previous visit to Bicentennial Park I had noticed quite a few of the White-headed Stilts were either building nests or sitting on eggs. So I thought it worthwhile making another visit to see their progress.

Another pleasant day spent in Royal National Park. This time it was a walk with Digi Dave from Wattamolla to Little Marley via the Coastal Track and then back the same way.

I spent an interesting afternoon at the local wetlands. I was mainly photographing birds.
When I arrived, I was saddened to see a large Blue Tongue Lizard. It was dead and was starting to be eaten by ants. I am not sure what kills the lizard. It had no visible signs that showed how it died. Perhaps it was trodden on (people do walk through at night) or rode over by a bike or trail bike? Continue reading
This was a pleasant and interesting day. My main purpose was to visit the Warriewood Wetlands and the nearby Irrawong Reserve. But, as it was quite windy, I broke my journey home, by making a quick visit to where I had seen the nesting pair of Peregrine Falcons to see if they were active. They were!
First at the Warriewood Wetlands there seemed to be a lot of nesting birds. I saw a few chicks, inkling some that looked recently hatched. Other birds were building nests. Continue reading

I had been staying up at Blackheath after a BBQ at a friends place. Their house was fairly close to Govetts Leap Lookout, so I got up early and walked down to the lookout for sunrise. The dawn was reasonable but not too atmospheric.
