My previous visit to Malabar Headland had been quite disappointing with only a brief appearance of the juvenile Peregrine Falcon. This visit was even less successful. I did spot an adult Peregrine Falcon perched on the cliffs, but it remained in the same spot for my entire visit – more than four hours.
I saw this boat pass by. It is apparently a Sydney-Hobart yacht that is limping back with a broken mast. Continue reading
I had recently heard that a pair of Black-backed Bitterns (Australian Little Bitterns) had successfully been nesting at Narawang Wetlands at Newington. So I spent most of a rather hot day there trying to spot these rather reclusive birds. I had no success on this visit.

The highlight of this visit was watching a pair of foraging Buff-banded Rails.

After a very quiet day spent at Malabar Headland the day before, I wanted some more raptor action, so I headed up to Long Reef. As soon as I arrived, I spotted an Osprey perched on the cliffs below the lookout.

I had a family Christmas in Tasmania, staying at my sister and brother in law’s place at West Ulverstone. We were also joined by my other sister and her husband. I took my bird camera with me, and recorded some of the birds I saw.

I headed out to Malabar Headland with Sue, and we were later joined by Alana. I think we probably had the best session observing the family of Peregrine Falcons of the season.

I joined Brian Everingham and party from the National Parks Association of NSW for a very nice walk in Royal National Park. It was a half day walk from Bundeena and then a loop around the Jibbon and back to Bundeena.
Some of us travelled to Bundeena by train to Cronulla and then the ferry over to Bundeena. This is a very pleasant way to go. At Bundeena, we met the rest of the party and were soon on our way walking along the Jibbon Beach. Continue reading

I spent a nice day with Bob and Doug, visiting first Jugglers Canyon, and then The Grand Canyon in the upper Blue Mountains.
