After there Greenway Bird Survey, I headed home for an early lunch, and then headed out agin – this time to Newington, where I again visited the Narawang Wetlands hoping to get more photos of the Australian Little Bitterns.
As soon as I arrived, I could not help noticing that the mosquitoes were very abundant. I had repellent which I applied liberally, but I later found them biting me through my shirt. They were annoying. Continue reading
I took part in the local bird survey along the Dulwich Hill section of The Greenway. The group meets outside Waratah Mills Light Rail Station at 7:30 am.
The morning was quite dark and gloomy, with rain threatening. This made bird photography difficult, but the conditions did not scare away the birds.

I joined John and his two boys Jasper and Seby, for a walk to a nice swimming hole in Kangaroo Creek in Royal National Park. It was a warm day, and visiting a nice place to swim sounded like a good idea.

So far this year, I had been on two trips to the Narawang Wetlands at Newington, in Sydney Olympic Park, to look for the Australian Little Bitterns (Black Backed Bitterns) that others had seen there. Those trips had been unsuccessful from the point of view of observing the Bitterns, although I did see some other nice birds while I was there. My third visit was a lot more successful. I observed two Australian Little Bittern chicks and one of their parents.
I arrived around 10:30 am, and bumped into Janardan, another bird photographer. He had been there a while and had also been looking for the Bitterns, but had had no luck. He left soon after. Continue reading
After some recent successful visit to Birdwood Gully on the north side of Springwood, I thought it would be worthwhile visiting Sassafras Gully on the south side to see what fungi was out there. This time, I was joined by Valerie and Sue.
The fungi we found was quite reasonable. A lot was not that fresh, and a visit a few days earlier would have been better. We walked down the track at Sassafras Gully Road to The Lagoon, and returned to Springwood via the Wiggins Track. Continue reading
Yet another hot day was forecast – so I decided to do a short local walk – visiting Wolli Creek Regional Park. Being hot – the birds were not very active. I was also on the lookout for any fungi – but found very little out – none worth photographing.

Bob and myself decided to visit Dalpura Canyon. A reasonable day was forecast weather wise – not too hot. So Dalpura seemed a good choice.
