After the Greenway Bird Survey, I headed to Bexley North and had a pleasant walk down the Two valleys Track along Wolli Creek to Turrella. I was interested to see what fungi was out, and also I planned to photograph any birds I saw.

I took part in the bid survey along the Dulwich Hill section of The Greenway, early on Saturday morning. As usual, the group met outside the Waratah Mills Light Rail Station at 7:30 am.
While the group was gathering, we looked up and saw a flock of birds flying at high speed. They were White-throated Needletails. Continue reading
An old bushwalking friend Keith Maxwell had spent a lot of his spare time over the past few years, together with Michael Keats, working on a book on Splendour Rock in the Southern Blue Mountains. The book has now been published and I had the pleasure of attending it launch at Winmalee.
The authors should be commended for the thoroughness of their research. It details the story of the war memorial at Splendour Rock and the World War II servicemen from bushwalking clubs in NSW who died during the war. As well there is a wealth of other information about Splendour Rock and why there are other plaques there. Continue reading
I joined Sue on a visit to Oatley Park. We sent an enjoyable day wandering around looking at the trees the flowers, the birds and some of the lizards.
Sue had a swim at Jewfish Bay, and while I was waiting, a pair of Sacred Kingfishers came by. One dived down in front of me and grabbed something from the water. It flew up into a tree, and then I spotted the second one. Continue reading

I normally only visit Malabar Headland during the Peregrine Falcon breeding season or for whale watching. But every now and then – I like to make a visit toes how things are. This time, I met Sue at Maroubra Beachand we walked out onto the headland.

A warm day was forecast, so I didn’t want to do too much, so I decided on a trip to Sydney Olympic Park. I started at Mason Park Wetlands, and then made my way to Lake Belvedere. Then to the Waterbird Refuge, Wentworth Common and I finished at Narawang Wetlands.

I decided to visit Long Reef, so caught buses to Long Reef. I was soon out on the lookout.
I was hoping to be able to photograph some raptors – in particular the local Ospreys. I had to wait awhile – but I eventually saw two.
I arrived a bit after 11 am, and before going down to the beach level, I photographed some Superb Fairy-wrens near the gate. Continue reading

A hot day was forecast, so Bob and myself decided to do a fairly easy walk to look for some Aboriginal art sites in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
