I spent a pleasant day at Long Reef on the Northern Beaches. Quite a few interesting birds were around.

I was attending the Sydney Fungal Studies Group’s AGM at Girrahween Park at lunchtime, so decide to fill out the day with a walk down Wolli Creek from Bexley North and then walk home via the Cooks River.

I had arranged to meet Sue at Sydney Park at St Peters in the afternoon. We had an interesting time, but the birds spotted were a bit disappointing – no Dollarbird, no Kingfisher, no Tawny Frogmouths and no Buff-banded Rail.
But it is still a pleasant place to spend some time and there is always something interesting to see. Continue reading
I visited Narawang Wetlands in the morning – and was there from about 8:15 am till 11 am. During my visit, I did not spot any of the Black-backed Bitterns despite a lot of looking.
The most unusual thing I saw was a pair of Ring-tailed Possums climbing through some trees a short way downstream. Continue reading
I had been canyoning up the Blue Mountains with Bob, and after an early finished we decided to visit a few heritage sites on the way down Bells Line of Road. Our first stop was the Emu Cave.

A hot day was forecast was forecast in the Blue Mountains, so Bob and myself headed up to Mt Wilson to visit Why Don’t We Do In The Road Canyon. It was nice and cool in the canyon, and the walk out is not too strenuous.

I had organised an excursion to Parramatta with Valerie and Sue. This was partly for a nice ferry cruise along the Parramatta River from Circular Quay, and also for visiting some historic sites at Parramatta.
We met at the wharf at Circular Quay and board the ferry to Parramatta. The one we were on had seats up on the roof – so that was where we went. Continue reading
This was a short afternoon visit to try and get some better photos of the Black-backed Bittern. This was my fourth visit in recent times, and the first that I did not spot any of the Bitterns. Also, my visit was cut short by a big storm that was approaching.

After visiting Rocky Creek Canyon, Wendy and myself headed out along a nearby ridge, along an overgrown fire road to look for an old campsite. However the fire road was not only the only thing overgrown, the campsite was completely covered in regrowth. So we ended up camping on a clearing on the fire road.
After a cup of tea, we put up our tents and then set off down to a nearby lookout. This offers very good views of the gorge of Carne Creek. Continue reading
I was heading up to the Blue Mountains for camping weekend with my friend Wendy. Our aim on Saturday was to visit Rocky Creek Canyon. I had been down the canyon with Bob, a few weeks earlier, but as canyons go, it is a relatively easy trip that offers a lot, so was more than happy to experience it again. I also thought that the hot humid weather could create some nice conditions for canyon photography.
We had a great trip. The canyon, as always was a bit cold. But conditions were relatively mild and it was certainly a very welcome refuge from the heat. And there were some nice photographic conditions. Continue reading
