In the afternoon, I caught a bus to Bexley North and set off down the Two Valleys Track – through Wolli Creek Regional Park. I was on the lookout for fungi and birds. The fungi turned out to be very poor.

I took part in the monthly bird survey along the Dulwich Hill part of The Greenway.
The highlight this survey was spotting a Leaden Flycatcher.
Conditions for photography were very bad with a heavy cloud cover. But at least it did not rain. Continue reading
Bob had been keen on a trip to visit Oronga Canyon for a while, and it had been a very long time since I had been there (2002), so we travelled up the Bells Line of Road and were soon walking along the ridge towards Wongarra Hill. We were following a climber’s track.

Sue joined me a for a nice day spent in Sassafras Gully at Springwood. The weather was warm, and we walked in about out via the track from Sassafras Gully Road.

Rainfall data had shown a reasonable fall of rain at Marrickville Golf Course, the crest weather station to Wolli Creek Regional Park, so I thought I would pop over to see if any fungi was out.
It turned out very little fungi was out.
I started from Girrahween Park, and walked upstream first, a bit past Paperbark Creek, then returned and walked back down to Girrahween Park and a bit downstream along the Two Valleys Track, then returned back to Girrahween Park. Continue reading
This was a morning trip to Barton Park and Landing Lights Wetland. Not that many birds were active – but the mosquitoes near the wetland certainly were. So I did not stay near the pond or in the mangroves for very long.

It was time to head to Long Reef on the Northern Beaches again. I was on the lookout for Ospreys and other raptors, but with low tide – I also had the chance to look for migratory birds.
When I arrived, I soon spotted an Osprey. But it was flying out to sea. I watched it for a while but it did not come back in the same way. Continue reading

A cool wet day day was forecast for the Blue Mountains, so canyoning plans were put on hold, and we Bob and myself decided to do another walk looking for Aboriginal art sites in the Blue Mountains. Doug was able to join us.
Some of the sites, both Bob and myself had seen before. But, for rock engravings we had an advantage this trip – the rock engravings were much easier to discern when the rock is wet.
The forecast turned out to be quite accurate. We had light drizzle most of the day. And as a lot of our walk was along fire roads – this was not too bad. Continue reading
