I visited two places to photograph birds. First was a visit to Rookwood Necropolis, mainly to see the Brown Goshawk chicks again. Then on the way home, I got off the train at Canterbury and walked down the Cooks River to see the Tawny Frogmouths.
At Rookwood, as I was walking into the Necropolis, I could hear a Brown Goshawk calling. I soon spotted an adult bird perched in a pine tree. Continue reading
The previous week, Bob and myself had visited the Minerva and Jingga Pools in Dharawal National Park. On that trip, Bob had taken Robert Sloss’s small guidebook to walks in the Southern Highlights. One of the walks in that book that was new to both myself and Bob was to the Aquapool, on Little River near Buxton. We decided to visit the pool, and also some other interesting places nearby.
Stonequarry Creek Aboriginal Site
We first visited a major Aboriginal site on Stonequarry Creek near Picton. This was on a rocky part of the creek. Continue reading
This is the time of year when I would normally spend a lot of time out on Malabar Headland photographing juvenile Peregrine Falcons. But this season, their nesting seems to have been unsuccessful. This is something that is common with many birds. But I was happy to make another visit, and joined Sue out on the cliffs.
The weather forecast was not the best. we expected some rain – and we did get a little. But there are some good overhangs out near Boora Point that offer refuge from the elements.
I had walked in from Malabar, and Sue walked in from Maroubra Beach and we met near Boora Point. After scanning the cliffs in various places, we spotted no Peregrine Falcons, so sat down to wait to see if any turned up. Continue reading
It was a bit of a wet day, but I decided to make a visit to Rookwood Necropolis to check on the progress of the nesting Brown Goshawks, and to photograph any other birds I could see.

I spent an hour or two at Barton Park photographing the birds.
I was a bit restricted. Entry into the old sporting fields next to the Golf Firing Range has been cut off. The old holes in the fence, used by dog walkers and others have now been sealed up. So the photos are from the Landing Lights Wetland and the Spring Street Canal. Continue reading
I made another visit to the Northern Beaches with the principal aim to photograph the Peregrine Falcon family, that I had been photographing a lot lately. That is, aiming they young birds were still close to their nest area. But before I visited those cliffs, I first went to Rat Park to check the Ospreys that nest there.

I took part in the early morning bird survey along the Dulwich Hill section of the Greenway. After the survey, I joined Valerie and Simin for a walk along part of the Cooks River to look at the Tawny Frogmouths.
The weather was not the best for the Greenway Bird Survey. There was light rain on and off. This made photography difficult – with poor light, and also many of birds preferred to stay in shelter. Continue reading
I joined Bob for a pleasant walk in Dharawal National Park – on the western, Wedderburn, side. The walk we ddi was not too strenuous, which suited me as I was recovering from a cold. And it was similar to a walk I did back in 2018, but with a few extra bits.
Like the previous walk, we went to the end of Victoria Road at Wedderburn, where Bob parked. The end of the road is also the start of Dharawal National Park. Continue reading

I had come down with a cold, and was feeling a bit lazy, so only did short local trip. I thought I would look at the local Tawny Frogmouths to see how their nesting was going.
At Morton Park on Canterbury Road, Lewisham, I soon located the Tawny Frogmouth nest. It s very high in a tree and difficult to photograph. This is the best view I could get – Continue reading
