I went for a nice walk yesterday to Wentworth Falls and the Valley of the Waters. I took a camera.
I caught a train to the town of Wentworth Falls and then after crossing the highway, set off down the Charles Darwin Walk to Wentworth Falls. This is a nice track and gets you off road and into the bush very quickly.
Yesterday I went with Chuin Nee and her very young son, Jasper, down to Bundeena. We were hoping to do a bush walk along the coast and also spot a few whales.
Su Li had organised a walk on the weekend to Colo Meroo – a nice campsite on the lower Colo River. We walked in via Mailes Ridge, starting off at Mountain Lagoon. On the walk were Su Li, Martin, Steffy, Col, Rik, Dave W, Albert, Rob and myself. In addition, a friend of mine, Doug, joined us for the first day.
I had recently visited the Upper Grose Valley. This was on a trip early in June. On that trip – the weather was not very kind. Almost continual rain meant that photography was very challenging. So I went back this week. I went solo with photography being a prime objective.
Blue Gum Forest
Yesterday was a nice day to hope on the bike and ride the 40km down to Cape Solander at Kurnell and look for a few whales.
The ride down there from my place is pleasant – along the Cooks River and then along Botany Bay to Captain Cook Bridge – all on off road cycleway. Then through a few backstreets of Taren Point to regain the cycleway along the foreshores to Shark Park. Then easy riding to Kurnell and a last bit of uphill to Cape Solander and great views from the cliffs.
Last weekend I was in a party that completed a section of the Great North Walk. This walk was organised by Helen from SUBW. The party was Helen, Kosta, Chantal, Laura, Luke and Mitch. We caught an early morning train to Brooklyn, arriving there before 8am and then setting off for our walk south.
I had not walked very much of this track before. Some parts I had visited by MTB. I was not sure what to expect. Continue reading
I was able to join Helen and others from SUBW on a trip to Donkey Mountain in the Wolgan Valley last weekend. The mountain is in the Gardens of Stone National Park and towers above the Emirates Resort.
We started from the Wolgan Road and climbed up to the south western end. It was raining, and it ended up raining all day, so the dry caves at that end of the mountain were welcome refuges – particularly for having lunch out of the rain. Continue reading

On Saturday morning we met in the Blackheath car park, and after coffee and snacks we set off for the Wolgan Road. Just past the Angus Place Colliery, we turned off and headed up the fire trail that climbs onto the divide. Just before the steep descent to Baal Bone Gap, we parked the cars and shouldered our packs. It was not too far to Baal Bone gap where we could fill up our water containers at the pressure reducing station. We were not the only ones there – a large part of 4WD’ers had turned up.
But we soon left them as we climbed up to the west and began the spectacular walk out to Baal Bone Point. Most of this walking is easy and fast – but we were slowed down by the numerous photographic opportunities. Continue reading
Last weekend was quite a wet weekend. I had wanted to photograph the Grose River and Blue Gum Forest again – and thought the soft lighting of dull weather might be good. Unfortunately, rain prevented a lot of photography. However, any trip to the Grose is nice. On this walk I was joined by Sarah, who was up on a short visit from Canberra.
