Malabar Headland – Birds, Whales and Dolphins – 29 May 2019

I spent a quite relaxing day visiting Malabar Headland National Park. It is now the whale watching season and I was hoping for a few whales. I was also on the lookout for raptors and honeyeaters. It was a sunny, but cold and windy day.

I did quite well spotting whales. I saw quite a few making their way north. Most of them were a fair way out, but still reasonable for photography. Continue reading

Vivid – Visit on 28 May 2019

I made a visit to Vivid – the Sydney Light Festival on the evening of 28 May 2019. My main aim was to get a series of still of the Opera House and Museum of Contemporary Art for to use to create a possible time lapse movie.

It was a cold windy night, so I didn’t stay too long. I though the light displays on both these building were not that good this year. Continue reading

Birds at Tempe – 28 May 2019

It had been a while since I had visited Tempe Wetlands. Looking back through my photos from the same period last year, I had photographed a lot of honeyeaters there. So I made another visit. Things, however were fairly quiet. Perhaps this is due to not that much food (blossoms) being available.

I ddi see a few New Holland Honeyeaters. Continue reading

More Birds at Warriewood – 27 May 2019

A windy day was forecast, so I thought that if I wanted to go outdoors, then somewhere sheltered could be good, so I chose another visit to the Warriewood Wetlands. My visit was very similar to my previous one visiting the Warriewood Wetlands, Irrawong Reserve, and sport fields near Narrabeen Lagoon.

Scarlet Honeyeater

The Wetlands were relatively quiet except for the Bell Miners. Continue reading

Another Day at Nurragingy – 24 May 2019

I arrived at Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside nice and early on a cool and very misty morning.

It was quiet on the bird front so I wandered around getting some photos of the gardens in the mist. It was certainly nice and atmospheric. Continue reading

Cooks River and Barton Park Birds – 23 May 2019

This was a full and very pleasant day spent cycling with Digi Dave along the Cooks River Cycleway to Tempe and then along the cycleway to Botany Bay (and back). Along the way we stopped plenty of times and various locations to photograph the local birdlife.

Before meeting Digi Dave near the old Sugar Mill, I had located one of the resident sets of Tawny Frogmouths. These were perched in a tree near the Boat Harbour. Continue reading

Woodford Dam Walk – 22 May 2019

The week before, I had been on a walk with Bob, from Faulconbridge to Hazelbrook. After a bit more research, Bob was keen to go back to part of the same area to look for some Aboriginal sites.

We set off along Winbourne Road at Hazelbrook and followed the fire road to Woodford Dam. Near the dam, we headed off track and explored some small cliffs looking for possible aboriginal art sites. Continue reading
